What is Teamwork?

Teamwork and team skills become significantly more important to companies as they increasingly rely on focused teams to deliver the expected company results. Teams come in all sizes and shapes, from board committees and management teams to project and problem solving teams.

How does Stanwick Management Consultants help me to build effective teams?

Our approach is based on the model of Ron Fry on team effectiveness which consists of four essential key dimensions. It provides a framework for assessing the effectiveness of an existing team and focuses the attention to those areas where improvement may be necessary. It can also serve as a guide to focus the efforts of a newly composed team.

Effective teams must have clear goals which are shared, understood and supported by its members and aligned with the objectives of the broader organisation. Roles need to be clarified and team members must be able to share their mutual expectations with one another. Within the team workable agreements will be made on how its members will deal with decision-making, problem solving, leadership and communication. Finally, to build strong relationships, there must be openness, trust and constructive mechanisms such as active listening and feedback, to evaluate and improve the team performance at all times.

Together with you we will boost the effectiveness of your team in 3 steps:

  1. A comprehensive assessment of the team, its individual members and the larger organisational context. This is done by interviewing all key stakeholders. The conclusions of the assessment indicates which dimensions are most relevant to improve the team performance.
  2. An off-site retreat with the team in order to work with the feedback of the findings of the assessment. Typically the team will then work on clarifying goals and roles, exchanging mutual expectations and making appropriate working agreements for the future.
  3. Development takes time, repetition, team practice and continued feedback. Therefore follow-up, individual & team coaching and progress reviews are strongly recommended.

Depending on the maturity of the team the consultant will use well-tested tools such as Belbin's theory on team roles (Belbin), MBTI, outdoor activities, cases and interactive team exercises to make this a highly profitable investment for your team.
