What is Lean Manufacturing?
Lean Manufacturing is a production system which requires a minimum of resources (half of human effort, machine capacity, materials, surface). It guarantees therefore high quality, flexibility, low cost and reliable and short delivery times for the manufacturing unit. The essence of the system is the enhancement of flow (produce at the demand volume with the proper takt time), and the elimination of waste (i.e. the elimination of everything that is not beneficial to the customer).
The main principles of Lean Manufacturing are:
- Focus on value for the customer
- Identify value streams
- Create flow
- Pull from customer
- Strive for perfection
How does Stanwick help you in implementing Lean Manufacturing?
- We execute lean assessments to identify the potential of your production system. By doing so, we gain insight in your business and analyze your current manufacturing strategy. Consequently, we map the value stream (current and future state map) and we identify major improvement levers.
- We set up an Implementation Plan together with local management.
- We organise awareness sessions in order to mobilise the key-players. We use a simulation exercise, the Lean Manufacturing Game, to create an insight in the basics of Lean Manufacturing and to create the necessary commitment.
- We provide in-house training on lean manufacturing tools: 5S, Visual Control, Standard work, Mistake proofing, Line balancing, SMED.
- We execute hands-on 3 to 5 days Kaizen workshops: develop work cells, distribution Kaizen workshops (Kanban Kaizen) and Production Preparation Process (3P) workshops.
- We organise the monitoring and reporting of progress to management.
